What is Hepatitis?

Hepatitis is a viral infection caused by the hepatitis virus (HBV / HCV), which can be transmitted through sexual contact, blood exposure, or from mother to child. It often becomes chronic (lifelong), especially if acquired in adulthood, and many people have no symptoms. Untreated chronic hepatitis can lead to serious complications like liver cirrhosis, liver failure, or liver cancer. There is no cure for chronic hepatitis B, (Hep C has a cure) but regular monitoring can help detect and manage issues early. Vaccination prevents infection for Hep B
